LED strips versus bulbs
LED strips run much cooler than bulbs, which is why they suit a mandir. They can sit behind thin carved Corian without heating it.
The power supply gets warm
Every LED strip needs a driver (power supply). The driver warms up, so do not seal it in a closed box. Place it where air can move and where it can be reached for replacement. Ask your fabricator where the driver will go before you approve the design.
Colour of light
Warm white, around 2700 to 3000 K, suits a mandir. Cool white can make white Corian look bluish.
Diya and agarbatti
A flame is a different matter from LED heat. Keep the diya on a brass or steel plate with a gap of a few inches from carved panels, and never under a shelf with LED strips close above. Corian handles everyday warmth, but it is not fireproof.
What to ask your fabricator
Where does the driver go? Can the LED strip be replaced without breaking the mandir? Is the wiring hidden and the power point planned? We plan all three in every FabDot design.
